After our first sold out performance, the Tampere Festival took us to a Finnish sauna. About 20mins outside Tampere we arrived to a gorgeous log cabin by a stunning lake. We were welcomed by Tampere’s Deputy Mayor, who gave us some facts about the role of saunas in Finnish life. There are 2 million saunas in Finland. It is a place where in the past women gave birth and people went to die.
The girls went first, while the boys waited chatting on the cabin porch. We had bathing costumes on and the braver ones of us went a la nude. It was fantastic – the hot stones, the whacks with birch twigs and the cool down in the lake.. amazing.
