The Space Programme 2018
DEEP SPACE 2018 - Arts and Technology
DEEP SPACE 2018 was a special edition of our long-running SPACE Programme which focussed on collaborative processes in arts and technology - zooming in on the potential of the human experience within this rapidly expanding field, which is revolutionising human connection, the imagination and how we express ourselves.
DEEP SPACE brought together artists, technologists, VR developers, interactive designers and creators to explore the ever-shifting intersection of arts and technology. The Performance Corporation made the decision to refocus The SPACE Programme because we believe there is an urgent need to understand exactly how collaborations between art and new technology can be best achieved.
The SPACE Programme has been running since 2008. It is an international multi-disciplinary residency that explores the evolving process of cross artform collaboration, offers R&D time without the expectation of ‘end product’, and provides space for exciting and unexpected artistic partnerships to grow.
Over the past 10+ years, more than 60 artists from all over the world have benefitted from the programme. Each year’s outcome has been vastly different due to the hugely varied alignments of artforms, artists and interrogations involved.
DEEP SPACE brought about new expertise and understanding of the different ecologies we are all part of, a deeper knowledge of different work practices as well as new connections. The residency took place in November 2018, at The Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig in County Monaghan.
