Beautiful Dreamers
By Tom Swift
A conversation with a city.
From a special vantage point in the heart of Limerick the audience were invited to look, listen and converse with city and its people. This was a journey through the ordinary lives of Limerick…
As nightfall descended across the streets, homes and workplaces of Limerick, a pulsing conversation began. Though they may never meet, strangers spoke to each other across the night. They spoke of love and laughter, of joy and loss and hope. Together they remembered their past and dream of an imagined future.
The audience were forced to ask, "What part will you play? Where do you fit in?"
Based on interviews with Limerick’s citizens, Beautiful Dreamers was an interactive performance reflecting the city’s answers in surprising ways and through a variety of forms, including a FM radio frequency that you can tune into whether at the show, at home or in your car.
This ambitious and multi-layered new work for Limerick City of Culture was a collaboration between two of Ireland’s most exciting and innovative companies: Anu Productions who produce experimental work incorporating theatre, visual art and dance and The Performance Corporation who are masters of site-specific work. Both companies have created multiple award-winning shows and events that takes theatre out of its traditional setting and into the streets, homes and buildings of wherever they work, creating transformative events that surprise, provoke and entertain.
This is Beautiful Dreamers. Your view is important. We’re listening. We want to know.
